Alcon’s “Point Break” remake has hit a major snag as sources confirm to Variety that star Gerard Butler has fallen out of the project.

Butler was in line to play Bodhi, the role played by Patrick Swayze in the 1991 original.

“Point Break,” co-starring Luke Bracey and Ray Winstone, is still expected to shoot in June.

While the reasons for Butler’s exit are unknown, the “Point Break” production was cutting it close to Butler’s upcoming shoot with the “Olympus Has Fallen” sequel “London Has Fallen,” which may have played a part in his departure. Others site creative differences as a factor.

Ericson Core is helming the pic, which will retain the original story of an FBI agent infiltrating a ring of criminals but will be set in the world of extreme sports.

Alcon’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove are producing along with John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer.

Smart move. They should just cancel this movie all together. So sick and tired of remakes these studios are selling out to in replacement of good, original scripts.

If it’s not set in the surfing world, you can’t call it Point Break.

Just love Gerard Butler but hate remakes. The real Point Break was perfect why make another one?

  5. Casey says:

Pick up where the old one ends. Now bring in brother Don Swayze and he’s a bank robber also. He finds out his brother has died.

  6. Movie Fan says:

He most likely dropped out due to the backlash hate of the remake more then anything else. Too bad, he would have made an excellent Bodhi.

  7. jsanjuan1967 says:

The late Patrick Swayze was the best movie with Keanu Reeves.
