SEOUL – Pre-production has begun on mystery film “Gokseong,” the third film to be written and directed by Na Hong-jin (“The Chaser”) and the third Korean production be backed by Fox International Productions.

The story revolves around a mysterious rumor that spreads in a village, a detective who investigates the case, and a shaman who helps out.

Kwak Do-won (“Yellow Sea”) and Hwang Jeong-min (“Fist of Legend”, “New World”) respectively play the roles of cop and sidekick. Newcomer, Cheon Woo-hee (“Han Gongju”) is cast in the role of “Anonymous.”

Fox Korea, which handles distribution of 20th Century Fox’s studio titles in South Korea and is slowly ramping up its production efforts alongside FIP, says that casting is now complete and that filming will begin by the end of the year. Production duties are handled by local company Side Mirror. The completed picture is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2015.

Fox handled Korean and North American distribution of Na’s second film “The Yellow Sea,” which followed his breakout 2008 hit “The Chaser.” It subsequently backed thriller “Running Man” and forthcoming comedy “Slow Video.”

The budget of “Gokseong” was not disclosed.
