Four Major Studios Team Up For Launch of New Youth Charity

Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros. and Lionsgate have teamed up for the launch of national charity TrueSpark to help provide support for the nonprofit that uses inspirational movies to expose, immerse and engage youth on issues of character.

With the launch of TrueSpark, at-risk youths between the ages of 11-18 will be able to view mainstream movies with positive messages and participate in interactive educational lessons, discussions and activities that build character and foster ethical behavior.

Celebrities involved in the cause include Dennis Quaid, Sean Astin and “The Carrie Diaries’”AnnaSophia Robb.

The program uses 50 inspirational films such as “Rocky,” “Rudy,” “The Blind Side” and “Freedom Writers” to deliver compelling lessons about character traits including, perseverance, courage, purpose, integrity, respect, humility and optimism.

TrueSpark has partnered with youth organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs, After School All Stars, KIPP and Imagine charter schools, as well as public school districts across 24 states to positively impact 10,000 participants.

David Tice, founder and chairman, created TrueSpark after selling his investment management company in 2008.

“The genesis of TrueSpark came from my realization that movies can help build character and illustrate the potential to dream big and succeed,” Tice said.

Founder of Indomitable Entertainment, Dominic Ianno, is the president and CEO of TrueSpark and decided to join the organization after meeting Tice at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009.

“David explained his vision of the program, and I felt compelled to use my entertainment business experience to make that dream a reality,” said Ianno. “Thanks to the support of many of Hollywood’s largest studios, we’ve developed a program that engages kids on the core issues that lead to long term success.”

Along with Tice and Ianno, Micheal Flaherty, co-founder & president, Walden Media, Ed Goren, vice chairman, Fox Sports Media Group, Mark Kendall co-chairman & CEO, White Light Media Group, John Schulman, partner, Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp, Michael Taylor, chair of Film & Television Production, University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts and Michelle Toth, SVP,D.E.
