Variety has been given exclusive access to the trailer for black comedy “Kebab & Horoscope,” which world premieres in the East of the West competition section at the Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival.
The pic is the debut feature from Polish director Grzegorz Jaroszuk, whose 2011 short film “Frozen Stories” played in Sundance and Locarno and was nominated for a European Film Award. The short won the Pianifica Prizena at Locarno and the grand jury prize at AFI Fest in Los Angeles.
“Kebab & Horoscope” centers on a group of misfits from a carpet shop who have a chance to change their lives with the help of two marketing “experts” — an ex-kebab shop worker and ex-fortune teller from a wildlife magazine.
The film was produced by Agnieszka Kurzydlo at Mental Disorder 4, whose project “Red Spider” features in the Karlovy Vary’s “Works in Progress” section.
