Emma Thompson, Nick Offerman Joining Robert Redford on ‘A Walk in the Woods’

Emma Thompson, Nick Offerman and Kristen Schaal have joined Robert Redford in the independent drama “A Walk in the Woods.”

Wildwood Enterprises and Route One Films started production Monday on the film, an adaptation of travel writer Bill Bryson’s memoir. Ken Kwapis (“He’s Just Not That Into You”) is directing from a script by “Little Miss Sunshine” writer Michael Arndt.

Nick Nolte will also star.

IM Global was selling international territories in November at the American Film Market. The project is adapted from Bryson’s 1998 book “A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail,” which recounts his attempt to walk the trail that runs from Georgia to Maine with a friend.

Redford first acquired the movie rights in 2005. Larry Charles, Chris Columbus and Barry Levinson have been in negotiations to direct at various points.

Redford and Bill Holderman of Wildwood Enterprises and Chip Diggins are producing the film. Executive producers are Jay Stern and Russell Levine of Route One Films, Lee Jea Woo, CEO of Union Investment Partners, and Jeremiah Samuels.

Route One Films is financing the film through its partnership with Union Investment Partners led by Choi Pyung Ho in South Korea. IM Global is handling overseas distribution via its Acclaim specialty label.
