Egypt’s Ismailia Fest Launches Coaching Program For Arab Documakers

Egypt’s Ismailia Intl. Film Festival has joined forces with Germany’s Documentary Campus and Screen Institute Beirut to launch a program to coach Arab ducumakers with projects in advanced development stages.

Now at its 17th edition, the event in the port city on the west bank of the Suez Canal is being relaunched as an incubator for new Arab moviemaking talent by Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy (pictured). Last year Hefzy launched the first co-production mart dedicated exclusively to documentaries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The two-day coaching program will feature sessions on storytelling and pitching.  Participants will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to attending producers and will be given several other networking opportunities.  The winning project will also get some coin.

Selected docu projects, which can have a cross-media element, will also be eligible to apply for the Mena Goes Berlin workshop organised by Documentary Campus and the Goethe-Institute Kairo.

The Ismailia Co-production Platform will take place on June 5, 6 and 7, 2014.

The 17th Ismailia fest will run June 3-8.
