Robert Rodgridguez's 'From Dusk Till Dawn' will take home the Star of Texas Award
The kudos single out Texans whose work have helped earned the state notice in the film world. Filmmaker Green (“George Washington,” “Prince Avalanche”), whose next pic “Joe” stars Nicolas Cage, was raised in Texas while actress Heard (“Machete Kills,” the upcoming “Three Days to Kill”) is from Austin. Country singer Mac Davis scores the soundtrack award.
Lifetime achievement honor will go to Louis Black, the Austin Chronicle co-founder who also was one of the founders of SXSW and the Texas Film Awards.
Robert Rodriguez’s 1996 pic “From Dusk Till Dawn” scores the Star of Texas Award, which goes every year to an iconic Texas movie. Rodriguez will be on hand to receive the laurel.
Luke Wilson, also a Texan, emcees the ceremony, in which presenters will include Danny McBride and Priscilla Presley.
The Austin Film Society’s Texas Film Awards are set for March 6 in Austin.
