Watch: Chris Hemsworth in First ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ Trailer

“We were headed for the edge of sanity, like we were apparitions, phantoms,” Brendan Gleeson narrates over haunting vfx in the first trailer for Ron Howard’s “In the Heart of the Sea.” “Trust gave way to doubt. Hope to superstition.”

Chris Hemsworth battles a bull sperm whale — and personal demons — in the movie based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s book, “In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex,” about the real-life story that inspired Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick.”

Hemsworth stars as the first mate of the Essex, a ship struck by a gigantic whale in 1819, leaving its crew shipwrecked and stranded for 90 days, thousands of miles from home. After the attack, the sailors head to South America and are forced to resort to cannibalism to survive.

The drama, which also stars Benjamin Walker, Tom Holland (who plays a younger version of Gleeson’s character) and Cillian Murphy, opens in theaters on March 13.

That looks like a great movie to see in the theater. Add Hemsworth . . .

  2. Pam Martin says:

I will go and see it or rent it when it comes out on video. Looks like it is full of tense moments. I loved the book. Think I will love this movie too. Might even buy it after seeing the entire movie.

  3. Cindy says:

Based off an awesome book by Philbrick about a real life incident that inspired my favorite book so I have high hopes for this movie. Plus Chris Hemsworth is one of my favorite actors. Very excited.
