Chinese Romance ‘But Always’ Set to Woo North American Audiences

HONG KONG — Chinese romance “But Always” is heading for a day and date release in North America, simultaneous with its outings in China and Hong Kong.

The film has been picked up by China Lion Releasing, which will take it out in key U.S. and Canadian cities on Sept. 5. The company will also handle it in Australia and New Zealand from Sept. 4.

“But Always” marks a return to the romantic genre for star Nicholas Tse, after a decade in which he focussed more on action roles. He stars opposite Gao Yuanyuan as one half of a couple who destiny seems determined to keep apart, despite their multiple encounters over the decades and in different locations.

Direction is by Snow Zou and production by Hong Kong’s Emperor Motion Pictures.

China Lion specializes in giving synchronized international releases to Chinese-language movies and is currently handling Nick Cheung-starrer “That Demon Within” and hit “The Breakup Guru.”
