Cannes: Van Sant Wants Watts for ‘Sea’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Gus Van Sant says he’s eyeing Naomi Watts for the female lead in “Sea of Trees,” starring Matthew McConaughey. Alex Walton’s new shingle Bloom will represent international sales of the film at Cannes. CAA and WME rep domestic distribution rights. Story follows a suicidal American (McConaughey) who befriends a Japanese man (Ken Watanabe) lost in a forest near Mt. Fuji.

  1. I agree with Vant Sant, Naomi Watts is perfect candidate for Sea of Trees. Ms. Watts, I know nothing about films but, I know good acting when I see it. You were astonishing in the Painted Veil, and captivating in Impossible. As one of your fans you should say yes to the Sea of Trees project. Altogether you are a great actress as well as a wife, and mother.
