PARIS– Underscoring its interest for ambitious new Scandinavian filmmakers, European powerhouse Studiocanal is teaming up with Nordisk Film Production on Tobias Lindholm’s anticipated thriller  ‘A War.”

Pic will reunite Lindholm with Pilou Asbæk, the star of “R” and “Hijacking.”

Asbæk stars as Major Claus Michael Pedersen a Danish company commander who is accused of war crime upon his return from Afghanistan. As he comes home to his wife and three children, the soldier is put on a military trial for making the fateful decision to bomb an area, causing the death of 11 Afghan women and children.

Tuva Novotny, Søren Malling, Charlotte Munck and Dulfi Al-Jabouri also topline.

Pic is being produced by Tomas Radoor and René Ezra for Nordisk Film Prod. Lindholm is a star helmer-scribe, who notably penned episodes of the hit crimer “Borgen” and Oscar-nominated “The Hunt” directed by Thomas Vinterberg.

Nordisk’s distribution arm will release the movie in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.

Studiocanal will distribute in France, Germany, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. It will also handle international sales, kicking off in Cannes. Scandinavia has been on Studiocanal’s radar since “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” which was a success on all fronts.

“From the moment we saw ‘A Hijacking,’ we knew that Tobias Lindholm was a director we wanted to work with at Studiocanal. As a writer and director, he is clearly one of the most exciting talents in Europe today. We are very happy to be part of his new film A WAR with Tomas, Rene and Nordisk”, said Ron Halpern, EVP of international production and acquisitions at Studiocanal.

Radoor and Ezra, who worked with Lindholm on his last two films, said that “Having gone from the prison cells of Horsens State Prison to the high seas of the Indian Ocean, we will now take our offset in war-torn Afghanistan. Adhering again to the principal of ‘Reality Rules’ we knew that this would be our most ambitious undertaking so far and therefore required us to find the right partner to achieve our ambition and share our vision.”
