Ghost Rituals

Supernatural story sets thesps versus poltergeists.

Ghost Rituals,” the directorial debut of top Hong Kong actor Nick Cheung, will have its market premiere screening this week in Cannes.

The picture is a horror thriller about a man who takes over an opera troupe which is plagued by supernatural phenomena, including a poltergeist which needs to be challenged head on.

The pic stars Cheung, Annie Liu, Lam Wai and Carrie Ng.

“Rituals” is set up as a Hong Kong-Malaysian co-production with Darclight, the specialty genre arm of Arclight Films, handling international sales. Adrian Teh (“Ice Kacang Puppy Love,” “The Wedding Diary”) produces.

“This award-winning team of actors and filmmakers have skilfully brought to life a truly unique and terrifying modern ghost story, one that can claim both artistic integrity and major commercial appeal,” said Elliot Tong, head of Asian sales and acquisitions for Arclight.

Arclight’s umbrella of companies are handling new titles including a live-action adaptation of “Mulan,” which is now in pre-production and is handled by Darclight; “Outcast” starring Nicholas Cage, now in post-production, handled by Easternlight; and Arclight’s “Last Knights,” starring Clive Owen and Morgan Freeman, “Predestination” starring Ethan Hawke, and “Left Behind” starring Nicholas Cage.
