CANNES: Jason Sudeikis-Alison Brie Comedy Gets Financing

Sidney Kimmel Entertainment will independently finance and co-produce romantic comedy “Sleeping With Other People,” starring Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie.

IM Global is selling international rights to the project at Cannes. Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, Jason Mantzoukas and Natasha Lyonne have also been cast.

“Sleeping” was first unveiled at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival with Sudeikis and Kirsten Dunst in the lead roles and Leslye Headland (“Bachelorette”) directing from her own script. At that point, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Jessica Elbaum were on board to produce via the Gary Sanchez label.

Dunst later departed the project and was replaced by “Community” and “Mad Men” star Brie.

Kimmel has joined Ferrell, McKay and Elbaum as a producer; SKE’s Jim Tauber and Carla Hacken will executive produce. The project has become the first to be developed under the Gloria Sanchez Productions banner.

Sudeikis will portray a womanizer while Brie will play a serial cheater. The duo form a platonic relationship to overcome their chronic infidelity.

Shooting will begin in June in New York City.

“We all loved Leslye’s dark, honest, and bitingly humorous film ‘Bachelorette,'” Hacken said. “We appreciate how she challenges social norms with her insightful and hysterical voice and are confident she is going to do that with ‘Sleeping With Other People.’”
