Italian horror master Dario Argento will be among guests of the Locarno Film Festival where his first film, trend-setting slasher “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage,” will screen as part of the fest’s retro dedicated to Italy’s storied Titanus studios.
“Argento accepted to come first and foremost because he was very close to late great Titanus chief Goffredo Lombardo,” said Locarno artistic director Carlo Chatrian. “Crystal Plumage” was produced by Lombardo.
The second reason he’s making the trek is because he wants to meet young filmmakers to whom he will show a series of shorts called “Corti di Paura” (Scary Shorts) which he shot for pubcaster RAI and have never been shown outside of TV before, Chatrian added.
The 67th edition of the Swiss lakeside fest, which is dedicated to global indie, auteur and cutting edge cinema, will run August 6-16.
