‘Black Coal’ Gleams Ahead of Berlin Premiere

"Black Coal Thin Ice" in Berlin

LONDON – Distributors in Europe and the Middle East have acquired rights to Chinese film “Black Coal, Thin Ice” which appears in competition in Berlin on Wednesday.

It was acquired by Memento Films for France, by Megacom Films for the Former Yugoslavia area and Bulgarian Film Vision for Bulgaria. It was also acquired by Irib for Iran.

Directed by Diao Yinan, the film tells the story of a former detective who falls in love with a mysterious woman linked to a series of murders. It stars Gwei Lun-mei as the woman and Liao Fan as the former cop.

An official China/Hong Kong co-production, the film is presented by Omnijoi Media Corporation, Boneyard Entertainment China, and China Film Company.

Fortissimo Films, which is representing it internationally, says other sales are being finalized.
