Alec Baldwin has joined Warren Beatty’s Howard Hughes biopic and will play Robert Maheu, a key confidant of the eccentric billionaire.

Beatty is producing, directing and starring as Hughes in the untitled movie, funded by Ron Burkle, Steve Bing, Windsor Media’s Terry Semel, Arnon Milchan’s New Regency and James Packer and Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment.

Ratner and Beatty are producing. Worldview Entertainment is co-financing and its toppers Christopher Woodrow and Molly Conners are also producers.

Martin Sheen, Matthew Broderick and Annette Bening also star. Alden Ehrenreich plays  Hughes’ assistant and Lily Collins will play his romantic interest.

Maheu, a former spy, said that he never saw Hughes and received all his instructions from notes and telephone. He was dismissed by Hughes in 1970 in a power struggle and later won a libel suit against Hughes that was overturned.

Baldwin is repped by CAA.

  2. PETER says:

I think Baldwin was in Leonardo’s AVIATOR along with a big cast–AlanAlda, JohnC. Reilly, etc. Right?

  3. Hornito, Sr. says:

Realimente? Otra vez? Was Alec in the first Howard Hughes biopic, THE AVIATOR?

  4. Ken says:

We’ve had DiCaprio’s take on Hughes in THE AVIATOR…and Jason Robards’ take in MELVIN AND HOWARD. Not sure what Mr. Beatty has to offer at this late stage, but it’ll be great to have him behind and in front of the camera again.

  5. Ron says:

After “The Aviator”, Baldwin seems to be cornering the market on Hughes Bio-Pics.

  6. Warren has been talking about doing this movie for almost 40 years, it’s about time.

  7. PETER says:

This should be good. Glad that Warren is developing something again. He should give Terry Moore a role in it. Too bad Jane Russell isn’t still alive; she was fabulous.
