K5 Ups Search for U.K. Films, Picks Up Tom Harper’s ‘War Book’

K5 Ups Search U.K. Films, Picks

Production, finance and sales outfit K5 Intl. is boosting its U.K. presence by expanding its London operation with additional staffing and taking international rights to Tom Harper’s thriller “War Book,” which gets its world premiere at the London Film Festival this month.

Kathrin Schoeftenhuber is re-locating from the company’s Munich headquarters to London as part of K5’s push into more U.K.-based projects. Schoeftenhuber, a key part of K5’s acquisitions team, will aim to help broaden connections between Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur’s company with the U.K. production sector, and to secure more British-made product. She joins K5’s U.K.-based partner and head of sales Carl Clifton.

“War Book,” which is directed by Harper (“Woman in Black: Angel of Death,” “Scouting Book for Boys”) and written by Jack Thorne (“How I Live Now,” E4’s “Glue”), stars Sophie Okonedo, Phoebe Fox, Ben Chaplin, Anthony Sher, Kerry Fox and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. It is a taut thriller that follows a war game among a group of government officials. As it reaches boiling point, their hypothetical global crisis escalates and the fragility of everyday life and those who govern it is brutally exposed.

Pic is produced by Lauren Dark for Sixteen Films, with Mike Brett and Steve Jamison’s Archer’s Mark.
