First-timer Cedric Lachenaud Joins Favola for ‘Leaving the Nest’

Animated feature, produced by France's Gregory Baranes, presented at Annecy's Mifa

First-time director Cedric Lachenaud is teaming with producer Gregory Baranes, founder of French outfit Favola Films, to develop animated adventure comedy pic “Leaving the Nest.”

Selected by Annecy’s Mifa market, the project was pitched Tuesday as part of Mifa’s Creative Focus competition.

Based on a script penned by Marine Lachenaud, the helmer’s sister, the feature project, set in 1889, turns on Chloe, a 10-year-old girl and her inventor father heading to Paris to enter a flying man contest, whose starting ramp is the Eiffel Tower.

Described by Baranes as “a perfect entertainment product made for worldwide exploitation,” the pic’s universal values include “the very strong relationship between a father and his daughter, Paris as the center of the modernity in 1900, and the first steps of aviation,” the producer said.

“We are finalizing the script and have the entire graphical pack,” Baranes added.

In Annecy, he’s looking for partnerships with investors, distributors and broadcasters.

“Leaving the Nest” suggests a step up in Favola’s production ambitions. “Our goal is to produce the movie and create a multi-support brand,” Baranes said. “That’s why we are creating a 26 x 26 minutes animated TV show, developing the film’s universe and characters.”

Launched two years ago, Favola Films aims to develop original and creative animated feature films, made for a family audience and the international market.

Favola has developed to date two more CGI animated projects, “Arjuna” and “Liberty Jack,” both comedy adventure pics, pitched at Cartoon Movie.
