‘Shakespeer,’ ‘West,’ ‘Metalhead’ Capture International Deals

Picture Tree inks distribution deals for Berlin sales slate

LONDON — Picture Tree Intl. has inked a string of international distribution deals following negotiations at last month’s Berlin’s European Film Market.

Screwball romantic comedy “Suck Me Shakespeer,” which was the most popular film in Germany last year, was sold to France (Ocean Film), Czech Republic/Slovakia (Cinemart) and South Korea (Sejong). Advanced negotiations with several other territories are ongoing. Pic gets its North American preem this week at the Miami Film Festival.

Mainstreet Films has picked up North American rights to Christian Schwochow’s “West,” which also sold to U.K. (New Wave), France (Sophie Dulac), Spain (Savor Ediciones) and South Korea (Mediasoft). Encore acquired the worldwide in-flight rights to the film. Senator Film releases it in Germany at the end of March.

New U.S. distrib Cinelicious has acquired Icelandic heavy-metal drama “Metalhead,” directed by Ragnar Bragason. The film was also licensed to Canada (Raven Banner) and Australia/NZ (Madman).

Thomas Imbach’s “Mary Queen of Scots” was sold to the U.S. (Mousetrap/Festival Flix) and U.K. (Metrodome), as well as to HBO Europe and HBO Niederlande. PTI had already licensed the film to Australia and New Zealand (Curious Film) and the CIS States (Caravella). PTI is in the final phase of negotiations for the German, Spanish and Japanese markets.

Petra Volpe’s “Dreamland” was sold to South Korea (Mediasoft).

Jacques Ouaniche’s boxing pic “Victor ‘Young’ Perez” was sold to Australia (Champion Pictures). The film had already been sold to the U.S. (Synkronized/Millennium), Latin America (Amarok), the CIS and Baltic States (Luxor), and South Korea (Sejong). Advanced negotiations are under way for the German, Italian, Spanish and Eastern European markets.
