Stockholm fest will dedicate its 25th edition to late Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall, who received the Scandi festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000.
“Lauren Bacall was one of Hollywood’s greatest stars, known for her acting, her deep voice and her gaze,” stated the festival. “(She) was politically engaged and open-minded. During her weeklong stay at the Stockholm Intl. Film Festival she made an unforgettable impression on the people she met.”
Added the fest: “(Bacall)’s film debut in the 1944 ‘To Have and Have Not’ made her famous and she quickly became a legend — a term she resisted saying that was a reference to the past and she was more interested in the present and future.”
“If you want to be an actor, learn how to act then maybe you can be a star. If you want to be a star, that’s your aim, then you will never be an actor. And you may also never be a star,” declared Bacall when she received Stockholm’s Achievement Award in 2010.
The 2014 edition of Stockholm festival will take place Nov. 5-16.
