Alex Walton, the former president of international sales and distribution at Exclusive Media, is partnering with financier Ken Kao to launch Bloom, a production company that will also handle sales and financing, according to an announcement on Tuesday afternoon in Cannes.

The first movie on the company’s slate is “Sea of Trees,” the upcoming drama that teams Matthew McConaughey with director Gus Van Sant. Kao is funding the film through Waypoint Entertainment.

Bloom will represent international sales of the film at Cannes. CAA and WME will deal with the film’s domestic distribution rights.

“Ken and I have similar tastes and ambitions, I am delighted to have found a partner who is committed to creating a new voice in the film community,” Walton said in a statement. “We will have the resources to be flexible financially and look to build partnerships with our network of international distributors and producers.”

Other films on Bloom’s sales list include “Begin Again,” starring Keira Knightley; “Dark Places” with Charlize Theron; and “Jane Got a Gun,” headlined by Natalie Portman.
