Fox’s “Exodus: Gods and Kings” has opened solidly with an estimated $1.2 million at 2,500 locations in Thursday night showings in the U.S.

Box office tracking has estimated that “Exodus” should pull in roughly $25 million when it debuts this weekend across 3,503 locations. Some tracking suggests the film could hit $30 million.

“Exodus” debuted last weekend in 10 foreign markets including South Korea and Mexico, picking up $23.1 million. The Ridley Scott production stars Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Ramses. Early reviews have been mixed.

The year’s other high-profile Biblical epic, Paramount’s “Noah,” opened with $1.6 million on Thursday night on its way to a $43.7 million opening weekend.

A pair of October releases — Sony’s “Fury” and Fox’s “Gone Girl” — both opened with $1.2 million on Thursday nights. Fury went on to a $23.7 million opening weekend and  “Gone Girl” took in $37.1 million.

Paramount’s Chris Rock comedy “Top Five” also launched, with $191,324 at 800 sites in Thursday night shows. That’s comparable to “Addicted,” which opened with $164,000 in Thursday previews beginning at 8 p.m. and wound up with a $7.5 million opening weekend.

The well-reviewed film will expand today to 979 locations and is expected to take in between $6 million and $8 million during its opening weekend.
