"Parasyte: Part 1" Film Review

TOKYO – “Parasyte,” the first of a two-parter about a teenage boy’s struggle to survive an invasion of alien parasites, beginning with one lodged in his right hand, bowed atop the Japanese box office for the weekend of Nov. 29-30.

Based on a best-selling comic by Hitoshi Iwaaki, the sci-fi antasy by hit maker Takashi Yamazaki (“The Eternal Zero) earned $2.9 million from 256,000 admissions on 418 screens, with Toho distributing. It has premiered in October as the closing picture of the Tokyo festival. Te property had been held under option for several years by New Line Cinema.
Ranking at number two, the Brad Pitt WWII drama “Fury” scored $2.5 million from 156,000 admissions on 332 screens. Meanwhile, last week’s number one, “Interstellar,” slipped to number three.
