‘Grandmaster’ Wong Kar-wai Claims HK Director Award

The Grandmaster Zhang Ziyi

HONG KONG – “The Grandmaster” was Wednesday named as best film by the Hong Kong Film Directors Guild. Its director Wong Kar-wai won the best director prize.

“Grandmaster” stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Zhang Ziyi were named as best actor and actress.
The awards haul contrasted with the lack of silverware from the recent Academy Awars in Los Angeles, where the film was nominated for best costume design and best cinematography.

Adam Wong was named as best new director for his “The Way We Dance,” while its male lead John Choi was named best new actor.
