Gus Van Sant Puts Rural Portland Compound Up For Sale

SELLER: Gus Van Sant
LOCATION: Portland, OR
PRICE: $1,795,900
SIZE: 15.4 acre (with multiple residential structures)

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: The eagle-eyed and real estate obsessed kids at Curbed were the first to spot and discuss about a riverfront compound near Portland, OR, owned by  Gus Van Sant and up for grabs on the open market with an unnecessarily complicated $1,795,900 million price tag.

As per property records Your Mama peeped, the semi-reclusive indie auteur’s 15.4-acre riverside demesne, about 22 miles due north of downtown Portland on rural Sauvie Island — home to Portland’s clothing-optional Collins Beach, was picked up by the two-time Oscar nominee (“Good Will Hunting,” “Milk”, “My Own Private Idaho”) in October 2006 for $1.3 million.

In addition to an updated if fairly ordinary, circa 1989 main house of 2,580-square-feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the suburban-pastoral property also includes a trailer home parked at the river’s edge, an open-air five-stall shop building and a magnificently cavernous barn converted to an arty-fartsy art studio with additional sleeping space.
