Donna Karan Puts Big Price on (Most of) Turks and Caicos Compound

SELLER: Donna Karan
LOCATION: Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos
PRICE: $39,000,000
SIZE: 7 acres with multiple residences and structures

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: As first reported by the diligent property gossips at The Wall Street Journal, Zen-minded fashion designer Donna Karan hoisted about 70-percent of her 10-acre-plus compound on super-posh Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands up for sale with an asking price of $39 million.

Your Mama made a couple of quick tabulations on our bejeweled abacus and unscientifically determined that if approximately 70-percent of Miz Karan’s 10-acre-plus spread — unsurprisingly dubbed The Sanctuary — is valued at $39 million then the overall value of the entire property would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $55 million.

The seven-ish acre portion of the property Miz Karan has up for sale encompasses an airy, screened-in dining pavilion that will easily accommodate 20 and a large, beach-side swimming pool. The pavilion is book ended by a pair of luxe, Afro-Balinese inspired villas, each 3,850 square feet, four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a private swimming pool. There’s also a separate kitchen, an a two-story yoga pavilion on the beach and another 1,564-square-feet of staff living quarters along with various other undefined structures. The property is offered fully furnished including scads of decorative carvings collected by Miz Karan during her international travels. (The portion of the property Miz Karan plans to keep contains the compound’s main house, a separate spa house and two swimming pools.)

Parrot Cay, a private island managed as a five-star resort, has long attracted its fair share of high-profile property owners including Keith Richards, Bruce Willis and Christie Brinkley who, as it turns out, has her 1.6 acre beachfront property on the market for the newly reduced asking price of $9 million.

Miz Karan, known for her flowy, body flattering and somewhat pricey clothing — think body conscious red carpet gowns, $300 jeggings and $800 hooded tunics perfect for a quick trip to the organic market, has long owned a spacious, 16-room combination apartment in a storied Art Deco building on New York City’s Central Park West purchased in the late 1990s for nearly $11 million. She continues to own  a downtown loft building that, according to Elle Décor, her late husband, artist Stephan Weiss, used as a studio space and that she uses for luncheons and business meetings. Like many wealthy New Yorkers. Miz Karan keeps a place in the Hamptons. Well, actually, she doesn’t own a home in the Hamptons, she owns four, all lined up in a row on a sandy bluff overlooking Gardiner’s Bay in East Hampton.

Clean, simple lines that don’t upstage the real star — the outdoors. But the price is wishful thinking…

My favorite designer, bar none. I love my tuxedo that she designed years ago with tails to the ankles. This place is beautiful and albeit that I am not fond of modern homes this one seems to fit
somehow. I loved it. That is a very optimistic price. However I hope one of my favorite divas of all time gets whatever she wants. Love ya Dona.
