WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will serve as a presenter at the 2014 South by Southwest (SXSW) music, film and interactive festival in March.

The Australian publisher and journalist, known for leaking secrets online, started WikiLeaks in 2006. The organization has since published millions of documents with the goal of promoting transparency between governments and citizens.

Assange will participate in a live conversation with Benjamin Palmer, co-founder of digital creative agency the Barbarian Group, via satellite on March 8 at 11 a.m. The two will discuss some of the topics that have fueled both of their organizations, including surveillance, technological advances in the digital age and the future of democracy.

This event is one of over the 800 daytime programs slated for the 2014 SXSW festival. A complete schedule of all the sessions can be found here.

Bringing into SXSW such an enemy of our country, our security and our way of life is a discredit and an affront not only for Austin and Texas but for the entire country. The purpose of SXSW is to celebrate and enjoy our music, films, arts, achievements, etc., and not to give exposure and allow bashers of our country to promote their hate against the US. SXSW should delete this from its program, or many people are going to desist from coming for this event.

    • Truth says:

What are you, dense? Assange is not traveling to the US because, in case you’ve been living in a cave, he’s holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy and cannot step outside without risking immediate arrest and extradition to the US. Despite the fact

You are so blinded by your jingoism and hatred for the outside world that you’ve no idea what you’re talking about. No one is going to boycott SXSW because unlike yourself, they are all sane.

      • Marco says:

Uh… He’s in danger of being extradited to Sweden, not the U.S. Officially, the U.S. hasn’t uttered a word about pressing charges. (Many politicians have said ridiculous things about “getting” Assange one way or another, but that’s just hot air for Faux News reels.)

  2. EmmaGoldstein says:

    This is good.
The public will get to see the man himself, and compare the way he is to the way Hollywood portrays him, in “We Steal Secrets” and “The Fifth Estate.”
It’s always interesting to compare your own impressions of someone with the media portrayal of that person.
