Vubiquity Buys U.K. VOD Operator FilmFlex

LONDON — California-based video services provider Vubiquity has acquired FilmFlex Movies, which was set up as a joint venture between Sony and Disney to provide VOD services to U.K. consumers.

FilmFlex has licensing agreements with several U.S. studios, including Sony, Disney, Universal, MGM and 20th Century Fox, and most leading U.K. independent distributors, including Lionsgate and eOne.

It provides white label VOD services to third parties, including cable operator Virgin Media, cell-phone providers TalkTalk and EE, and Channel 4’s movie platform Film4. It offers more than 500 films on the Virgin Media platform, including recent VOD releases “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “American Hustle.”

“Vubiquity remains focused on expanding the breadth of our managed services and technical solutions that today support content and service providers worldwide,” said Darcy Antonellis, CEO of Vubiquity.

“With FilmFlex we add additional studio assets and licensing, and gain important front-end technology to enable EST and other monetization models for multiplatform video consumption.”
