The 16-year-old, who has 8.7 million Vine followers, posted a clip from a HIV-testing commercial that explained that the disease was not just a “gay thing.” Grier then appears on the video saying, “Yes it is!” and screams a homophobic slur.
This is not the first time the video has received backlash. When Grier first posted it in April, he deleted it shortly after negative comments started rolling in.
However, another Vine user, Tyler Oakley, saved it and posted it, allowing it to resurface over the holiday weekend.
Promoting a false stereotype that HIV only affects gays to his millions of teen fans is extremely dangerous. https://t.co/W6X9MUrgUK

Grier took to social media on Sunday to apologize. In a draft on Twitter, Grier wrote, “I apologize for anything negative I’ve said towards gays and for that matter anyone. I was young, ignorant, stupid, and in a bad place.”

In the past, Grier has posted homophobic tweets using the term “gay” and “fag” in offensive ways. Yet in his Twitter apology on Sunday, Grier insisted, “I have nothing against anyone or anything that promotes equality. Sorry again.”
