‘Disney Infinity 2.0’ to Get Mobile Boost with Apple’s Metal

With Disney seeing a larger number of people play “Disney Infinity” on mobile devices, Disney Interactive will launch a significantly updated version of the game’s app this holiday.

The app has been rebuilt using Apple’s Metal software, which provides the ability to display more enhanced graphics — making the mobile version look closer to its console counterpart. Metal will also include multi-player functionality on the app on iPhones for the first time.

Disney said mobile was the leading platform for the first iteration of “Disney Infinity” over the past year.

Of the 14 million Toy Box levels that were downloaded, 7 million were on the iPad. The daily active users on the iPad also has surpassed all other platforms combined.

The new app will launch during the holidays, when most video game publishers generate a majority of their revenue.

Disney Interactive launched “Disney Infinity 2.0” in September, which includes the addition of Marvel characters to the game.

The game brings to life Disney’s popular characters from live action and animated films using physical characters that are placed on platforms.
