Hulu Names Warner Bros. TV’s Craig Erwich Head of Content

Hulu announced that it has hired Craig Erwich, previously with Warner Horizon Television, as senior VP and head of content.

Erwich will officially start at the Internet TV joint venture next Monday, April 7, reporting to Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins.

As head of content for Hulu, Erwich will lead overall content development, including investments in original first-run programming, primetime programming from broadcast and cable networks, and library TV series from the U.S. and internationally.

“Craig is the perfect guy for the job — he has been developing shows and programming networks for over 20 years,” Hopkins said announcing the hire. “He has impressed me and others who’ve met him with his collaborative approach, humility and tenacity to do what he believes.”

At Warner Horizon Television (WHTV), a division of Warner Bros. Television Group, Erwich oversaw development, production and business operations since joining in 2007. Prior to joining WHTV, he was at Fox Broadcasting for 12 years. At WHTV and Fox, Erwich helped create such shows as “Pretty Little Liars,” “The Voice,” “Prison Break,” “House” and “24.”

Hulu is a joint venture of Walt Disney Co., 21st Century Fox and Comcast’s NBCUniversal.

Since Hopkins joined as CEO last October from Fox Networks, he’s been actively filling out Hulu’s exec ranks — which had been decimated since the departure of former CEO Jason Kilar last spring, coinciding with its parent companies launching a second attempt to sell Hulu. (The trio of media congloms last summer decided to retain ownership of Hulu.)

Other recent Hulu hires include: Tim Connolly, who ran Disney’s digital distribution initiatives for TV, as head of distribution; senior VP of ad sales Peter Naylor, who hails from NBCUniversal; chief technology officer Tian Lim, formerly with Sony Entertainment Network; and CFO Elaine Paul, previously Disney’s head of strategy and business development.

All told, Hulu now offers content from 514 content partners, amounting to 70,400 hours of video on its free and subscription Hulu Plus services. That includes 89,000-plus TV episodes from 3,040 TV series.
