For the films acquired by both companies Atom will handle theatrical distribution and TV rights, while Well go will handle home entertainment and digital distribution.
“Co-operation between our two companies will expand our opportunities in film distribution and allow us to explore even more possibilities in the future,” said Liu Weijan, Atom Films’ MD.
“It is a perfect partnership. Atom is a leader in theatrical distribution, and we are a leader in home entertainment distribution,” said Well Go USA president Doris Pfardrescher.
Atom Cinema was founded in 2005 and expanded from film marketing into production and latterly into distribution. It produced local films “Starry, Starry Night” and “When A Wolf Falls In Love With A Sheep.” Its current slate of imported titles also includes “Philomena” and “The Butler.”
Film distribution in Taiwan has seen several disruptive events in recent years including the establishment of Catchplay, which launched in 2007 and by 2010 had become the territory’s dominant distributor, before having its rights challenged by Studio Solutions Group in the US courts.
