SXSW Car Crash Claims Life of Third Victim

A third person has died as a result of a car crash that happened early Thursday during the South by Southwest festival, the Austin Police Department confirms.

Sandy Le, a 26-year-old Austin resident who was one of those listed in critical condition at University Medical Center Brackenridge, succumbed to her injuries Monday.

Steven Craenmehr, 35, of Amsterdam and Austin resident Jamie West, 27, were also killed after a motorist drove his car into a crowd of people on Red River Street outside Austin’s Mohawk venue. West’s husband, Evan, was one of 22 others who were injured as a result of the crash. He was listed in fair condition.

The Austin-American Statesman reports that Mason Endres, 18, is “the lone patient remaining at St. David’s Medical Center” and that his condition is listed as fair.

Rashad Owens, 21 and an aspiring musician, was arrested and has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. His blood alcohol level was .114 at the time of his arrest, police said.
