The July 23 event is to raise money for the Democratic National Committee, with ticket prices starting at $1,000 per person, according to the invite. Those who pay $10,000 will gain entry to a reception, remarks from Obama and a photo line. Those who write checks for $20,000 also are invited to a dinner. And those who pay $32,400 — the maximum contribution allowed to the party — will get recognition on the invitation. A musical performer has not yet been announced.
Obama was last in Los Angeles to raise money in May, when he attended events at the home of Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn and at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. He also accepted an award from the Shoah Foundation.
Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama also are travelling to Southern California this weekend, first to Palm Springs on Friday and then, on Saturday, a fundraiser in Laguna Beach followed by a commencement address for UC Irvine graduates.
Obama appointed Rhimes to the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees last fall.
