The host of Variety’s Power of Women: New York event, Zac Posen, makes clothes for smart, confident, sophisticated women
Zac Posen’s clothes embody what Variety’s Power of Women: New York event is all about: strong, sophisticated and a not afraid to embrace femininity. A fashion wunderkind, Posen launched his label when he was 21, and in 2011, opened his first retail store in New York. His designs are red carpet regulars, as stars including Rihanna, Jessica Chastain, Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Hendricks and childhood friend Lena Dunham have sported his frocks.
Posen picked up fans on guest appearances on “America’s Next Top Model” and solidfied his TV bonafides as one of the judges on season 11 of Lifetime’s “Project Runway.” “This was an amazing opportunity,” Posen said in a statement at the time. “I hope I’m here to give a new perspective to the designers.”
Posen was a hit as a judge and came back for season 12, bringing not snark but a sharp technical eye and a kind but tough attitude of a veteran of the fashion wars.
He also gives a lot of time to philanthropic organizations, including Teachers Count and New Yorkers for Children.
The busy designer just launched a line of affordable bridal wear, Truly Zac Posen, and last year signed with UTA, perhaps with more TV projects in the works.
