Microsoft is said to be close to announcing its new CEO within the next week, with Satya Nadella said to be the latest frontrunner, according to published reports.

Microsoft has not commented on the news.

Nadella currently serves as head of Microsoft’s enterprise and cloud services. He joined Microsoft from Sun Microsystems in 1992. He would replace Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who is retiring.

Microsoft’s board is also considering whether to replace chairman Bill Gates with John Thompson, Microsoft’s lead independent director. Thompson is heading the CEO search and has said the board started with 100 candidates.
