Indian PM Narendra Modi to Tout Entertainment Business in LA

Indian PM Narendra Modi Tout Entertainment

Speakers include Shekhar Kapur, Schuyler Moore and Barry Levine

India’s recently installed Prime Minister Narendra Modi will headline a first time media and entertainment conference in Los Angeles at the end of the month.

The “Future of Media and Entertainment: Building a new age Global Ecosystem – Challenges and Opportunities: US, india and the World” event is backed by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in partnership with Nishith Desai & CO. and “Elizabeth” director Shekhar Kapur.

Organizers argue that U.S.-based entertainment outfits have been dazzled by the growth of China and have wrongly relegated thinking about India to merely a long term strategic objective. Proposing instead that India is more relevant in the global media and entertainment landscape than any other country on the planet, they pitch India as “the world’s largest English-speaking nation” and a country of 800 million mobile phone users.

Speakers include Vicangelo Bulluck (MD, outreach at AMPAS ), William Pfeiffer ( CEO of Celestial Tiger), Anjula Bath Acharia (founder of Desi Hits and manager to Priyanka Chopra), Schuyler Moore (partner at Strook, a law firm who represented Reliance on its funding of DreamWorks), Prem Akkaraju, (chief content officer at SFX Entertainment), and “Oblivion” and “Hercules” producer Barry Levine.

The event will take place on Sept. 30, in Downtown LA at the University of Southern California’s Embassy Ballroom.
