NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden is set to speak at SXSW Interactive Monday, March 10, the fest announced Tuesday. Due to his fugitive status in the U.S., he will not appear in person and speak via videoconference.

SXSW has said that surveillance and online privacy will be two big topics at the fest, running in Austin March 7-16. The conversation will revolve around the impact of NSA’s spying on technology, and what technology companies can do.

Snowden will speak with Christopher Soghoian, the principal technologist of the American Civil Liberties Union. The conversation will be moderated by Snowden’s legal advisor Ben Wizner, who is also director of ACLU’s Speech, Privacy & Technology Project.

Snowden is a former CIA employee and NSA contractor who disclosed classified NSA documents to the media last year, creating a national conversation. He is considered a fugitive by American officials and is under temporary asylum in Russia.
