Hong Kong Chief Exec Leung Reviewing Film Development Council Funding

C.Y. Leung (pictured), Hong Kong’s chief executive, promised to support the territory’s creative industries and help them improve their competitiveness.

“Last year we injected $300 million into our CreateSmart Initiative, which is a funding scheme to support the creative industries. We are also reviewing the Film Development Fund with a view to boosting support for the local film industry,” Leung said on March 24 at FilMart.

The Film Development Council, which operates under the tutelage of Create Hong Kong, has about one year of funding remaining from its original allocation and has begun to apply for replenishment.

Leung was making a rare appearance at FilMart for the market’s opening ceremony.
