Only a trio of Oprah Winfrey interviews have drawn more viewers for the net since its launch
The only OWN telecasts to rate higher, according to Nielsen, have been Winfrey’s sit-downs with Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina (3.5 million), Lance Armstrong (3.17 million for its first of two parts) and Rihanna (2.5 million).
The Savannah-set soap opera broke the previous record for an entertainment series on OWN set by the show’s second episode on its two-hour premiere night (1.82 million). The next night, another Tyler Perry original series, comedy “Love Thy Neighbor,” opened to 1.8 million.
“Haves” also established a series high Tuesday in adults 18-49 (0.61 rating), while its delivery in the network’s target demo of women 25-54 (1.20 rating) ranks behind only its second episode on premiere night (1.24 rating).
OWN originally ordered 16 episodes of the Southern-set soap opera, and then doubled the order to 32 after seeing four week’s worth of ratings data. The current batch of 16 episodes is set to wrap Sept. 3.
There’s still no word on Perry’s “Love Thy Neighbor,” which has fallen off in the ratings of late. Last week’s two episodes averaged a little over 900,000 viewers.
