Nobody expected CNN to turn around its morning ratings fortunes in one day, but the first-day ratings for its “New Day” weren’t very encouraging.
Nielsen estimates that the launch of “New Day” averaged about 247,000 viewers (including 95,000 adults 25-54) from 6 to 9 a.m. — down across the board vs. the net’s ayem showing of late. Year-to-date, for example, “New Day” came in down about 20% lower; and second quarter to date, the declines are more than 30%.
“New Day,” anchored by Chris Cuomo, Kate Bolduan and Michaela Pereira, drew less than one fourth of what Fox News Channel attracted Monday morning in the same time period with its “Fox and Friends” (1.06 million) and also well behind MSNBC’s established “Morning Joe” (355,000). “New Day” did finish ahead of HLN’s “Morning Express” (215,000).
