Lee Thompson Young — who got his start on The Disney Channel and was recurring on the TNT show “Rizzoli & Isles”  — was found dead today in his apartment. He was 29.

“It is with great sadness that I announce that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning,” Young’s manager, Jonathan Baruch, told Variety. “Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed.  We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends as this very difficult time.”

A statement released by TNT, Warner Bros. and “Rizzoli & Isles” executive producer Janet Tamaro reads, “Everyone at ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”

Young got his break starring as the title character on the Disney show “The Famous Jett Jackson.” He appeared in the movie “Friday Night Lights” and was also a part of the short-lived ABC show “Flash Forward.”

Linda, says how very sad for the family of this young man. My condonlences to his friends and family.
Just know from someone who has been in that position he was not trying to hurt anyone especially
his mother it was just day probably like many others. But this was one he just couldn’t get through. Depression is a deep dark hole which is very difficult and sometimes impossible to get through. On another note it seems sad to me that the the media mentioned the young man from Glee many times and I never heard Mr. Thompson’s death mentioned one time.

  3. I will miss seeing this young, man on Tuesday nights. When something like this happens whether to a celebrity or to friends or family I cannot imagine the sadness and despair that goes into such a decision. Unfortunately we see celebrities at their best working or socializing and we don’t see the deep depression underneath. To see a smiling, earnest young actor practicing his craft it is hard to imagine the grief, insecurity or depression he must have been feeling. To his family and friends, he touched people with his presence here on this earth and he will surely be missed.

I just finished watching my favorite Tuesday night show, Rizzoli & Isles, & was shocked & saddened
when during the closing credits I learned of this young man’s death. He seemed to me to be such a
gentle soul & I wish to extend my condolences to all of his friends & loved ones. I myself will miss his
presence on the show & his smiling face. RIP

  5. I was shocked and saddened when read the credits after the R and I show! My heart-felt condolences to Mr. young’s family; may God give you strength !

  6. Rod says:

I am really not all that familiar with this young actor’s work but do remember him in a recurring role on the WB Smallville series. It is always so sad to hear of anyone taking their own life. I’m never sure if the bizarre world of celebrity fame and living in a fishbowl 24/7 is a catalyst in actor suicides or their troubled mental state would have driven them to attempt to take their own life regardless of profession. Rest in peace, Lee Thompson Young.

  7. Gloria Clark says:

How sad, that some people have no hope for the future. So sad that he didn’t feel he could talk to anyone, and let them know what was bothering him. He hasn’t even had a chance to begin to live. Deepest condolences to his family and friends.

  9. Carl R White says:

Sad. I only knew him from FlashForward and thought he was great in that role. Unfortunately his life has ended in the same way his character’s life ended on that show. Suicide is never a solution. RIP.

Why?! These are modern days and times, where one could get help with depression, sadness or other. I wish these young folks would at least seek help before taking their own lives. So so sad.

What in the world goes on out there that so many young people give up on life? If everyone so self absorbed in the shallowness called Hollywood that they can’t see when someone is hurting? This is so very sad.
