Add a “Daily Show” type rundown of 2013’s strangest news events to the throng of holiday-time programming coming up on the TV schedule.
NBC said it would air a one-hour special featuring Willie Geist, the co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and the third. hour of “Today.” The special, “What We Wasted Our Year On,” will air Friday, December 27 a 9 p.m. eastern on NBC.
Produced by NBC News’ Peacock Productions, the one-hour special will take a look back at the stranger and more eyebrow-raising events of 2013 that captured public interest, whether they include Miley Cyrus’ twerking or Anthony Weiner’s sexting. Jim Biederman is the executive producer.
Geist is set to be joined by comedians Nikki Glaser, Seth Herzog, Julian McCullough and Sherrod Small. NBC News’ Harry Smith will make a cameo to read actual apologies made by celebrities and politicians, and will ask the comedians to identify who said what. Sasheer Zamata, a comedienne who is said to be among the finalists for an effort by “Saturday Night Live” to add a female African-American to its roster of “Not Ready for Prime Time” players, will join the cast as a field correspondent.
