On Jan. 28, as Center Theater Group’s Dante Di Loreto gave accolades to Carl Reiner, he was interrupted during a speech as he cited Reiner’s “nine Emmys, a Grammy and numerous lifetime achievement awards.” “It was 12 Emmys!” Reiner yelled out. The Mark Taper Forum event honored Reiner’s 75 years in showbiz with a staged reading of “Enter Laughing,” the tuner with book by Reiner. The evening raised $290,000 for CTG. There were also stories by son Rob Reiner, who talked about growing up with a famous dad who “was on TV before we bought a TV.” CTG’s Michael Ritchie said, “I’m living a lifelong dream and a personal nightmare: following Billy Crystal and Rob Reiner and being followed by Carl Reiner.”
