Warner Bros. continues to reach deep into the DC Comics vault to develop not just film properties but TV series. The latest project, “Gotham,” has a the sizzle of being associated with the Batman franchise and has landed a big commitment from Fox.

Project is a Gotham City origins story shepherded by Bruno Heller, creator of CBS’ “The Mentalist.” Story will explore the roots of Commissioner James Gordon, a regular figure in Batman tales, and the villains that put Gotham on the map.

Heller is writing the script and will exec produce. Fox has given a series commitment to the project, which is not quite an on-air order but a hefty down payment that puts “Gotham” on the fast track to pilot production.

So what you are saying is, they are a year behind Marvel/Disney. And, they are going to watch Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D’s numbers and make a decision. Warner, you are being too cautious, take a leap. Stop getting left behind, compete!

That was sneaky timing to steal the thunder from SHIELD’s opening night! :-)

I’d prefer to see WB focus on non-Batman related properties, but hopefully they can use this as a platform to highlight some of the many characters that they haven’t helped mainstream audiences get to know yet.

How about 10 years of a little show called Smallville??
    Really?? Get your facts straight!!

Yet another superhero show that just won’t work on television because they *never* work on television. The Flash…The Cape…Wonder Woman…Birds of Prey…Heroes after season one…need I go on?
