AMC Developing ‘Walking Dead’ Companion Series

AMC announced today that it is developing a companion series to its hit show, “The Walking Dead.”

Proposed new series would come from “Walking Dead” comics creator Robert Kirkman and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert.

The companion series has a target on-air date of 2015.

In a release, Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager said, “Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer. We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”

Kirkman added, “After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

AMC announced last week a spinoff show from its other big hit, “Breaking Bad,” which would actually be a prequel focused on Bob Odenkirk’s memorable character, Saul Goodman.

Season four of “Walking Dead” premieres on Oct. 13.

  1. Breaking -->BAD says:

    And Bryan Cranston will play a major role in the spin-off…
    Dead Meth Lords don’t go to hell, they become Zombies and Molest your kids like “Thriller” MJ!

  2. Awesome idea! I want to be in it

  3. Amanda says:

    Wow. They should really concentrate on improving the current Walking Dead. Season 3 was so disappointing.

    • Zil says:

      Yes…Amanda. I like the Walking Dead as a whole…but agree with you that Season 3 was not as good as I would have wanted. The dialogue is a bit slow…nothing happens much. It is called “The Walking Dead”…and therefore, we want to see the zombies more than they show. More action between the zombies and the cast. Seems as if it is focusing more on the interactions with the lead cast members…which can be a bit boring if not written well. But….I love zombie shows!

  4. Zil says:

    Love the Walking Dead! Zombie movies seem to be in now…and have been for a while. I would like to see a Zombie show that takes place in current NYC…using the landscape (stores, restaurants, etc)almost like Dawn of the Dead.

    • Liz says:

      I don’t know what it is that you and Amanda are looking for in the series, but Season 3 fantastic in both story and acting. Perhaps you are looking for just a zombie movie? If so, there are plenty of movies to satisfy you both. This series is clever and it doesn’t insult the viewers. I like that.
