USA, Syfy Shuffle Top Programming Execs

Bill McGoldrick heads to Syfy, Jackie de Crinis rises at USA, Mark Stern segues to producer role

USA Network and Syfy have shuffled programming execs in the wake of broader organizational changes at NBCUniversal’s entertainment cable wing.

USA vet Bill McGoldrick has moved over to Syfy as exec VP of original content. He’ll replace longtime Syfy exec Mark Stern as the cabler’s top programming exec. Stern will segue to an exec producer role on upcoming Syfy skeins. McGoldrick reports to Syfy prexy Dave Howe.

At USA, Jackie de Crinis was upped to exec VP of original programming. She reports to Chris McCumber who was named sole head of USA Network in September. De Crinis was most recently senior program exec at USA, where she has helped shepherd most of the cabler’s scripted hits stretching back to the early days with “Monk.”

“Bill and Jackie both have uncanny instincts about quality content that resonates with audiences, and are incredibly brand savvy,” said Bonnie Hammer, chairman, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “With this move, Bill expands his development responsibilities while he gets to satisfy a not-so-secret passion for the genre.  Jackie, who’s done a fantastic job at USA, gets to take on a well-deserved leadership role.  It’s a win/win for Syfy, USA and the entire Cable Entertainment Group.”

McGoldrick has climbed the ranks since joining USA as an exec assistant in 1998. He was most recently exec veep of scripted programming.

Stern joined Syfy in 2002 and was upped to prexy of original programming for Syfy in January 2011. He brought Syfy’s scripted efforts to new heights during his tenure with the success of “Battlestar Galactica” and “Warehouse 13.” But the exec shuffle is not a surprise to biz observers as Syfy has been in a ratings slump for the past year or so.
