Drama series draws 3.3 million viewers against NBA Finals competition
The opening night number of 3.31 million viewers was not impressive by USA’s standards but not a fizzle, either. And the 10 p.m. drama had some tough competish from end of Game 1 of the NBA Finals on ABC, which proved a nailbiter between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.
The ensembler about a group of undercover law enforcement agents who live in a Malibu beach house drew about 1 million viewers in adults 18-49, and 1.1 million viewers in adults 25-54.
USA noted that “Graceland’s” bow was not too far off the average aud delivered by “Suits” (3.47 million) in the same time slot this time last year. Frosh drama “Common Law” opened in May 2012 to 2.47 million viewers and was not renewed for a second season.
Given the NBA competition, “Graceland’s” performance in Nielsen’s Live-plus-7 ratings will be telling. In the run-up to the premiere USA experimented by allowing broad VOD and online sampling of the first episode in the hopes of driving larger auds to subsequent episodes.
