“We’re so proud to have this show in our portfolio of sitcoms,” Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land, said in a statement. “Fans of ‘The Soul Man’ are the drivers behind the success of the series. Because of their passion, we are able to continuously bring new viewers to the channel.”
“Soul Man” follows a R&B singer who becomes a minister and, along with his wife, leaves the fast-paced life of Las Vegas for a more relaxed time in St. Louis. The show is a hit with African-American audiences, particularly women — the first two seasons brought a 3.7 rating among African-American women 25-54, according to Nielsen. Overall, second-season ratings were double the network’s typical primetime average.
The new season will return with eight episodes in spring 2014.
