TV exec steps to Sundance

Nena Rodrigue named head of programming

Former Wolf Films and Imagine TV exec Nena Rodrigue has joined Sundance Channel as head of programming.

The move comes on the heels of Sundance’s promotion last week of Sarah Barnett to the prexy post. The AMC Networks cabler is revving up its original programming activity, particularly its scripted endeavors. It’s first original drama series, “Rectify,” is set to bow next month, while its latest miniseries, “Top of the Lake,” unspools March 28.

Rodrigue, whose official title is senior vice president of original production and development, will be based in Sundance Channel’s Gotham office.

At Wolf Films, Rodrigue oversaw the expansion of Peacock’s “Law and Order” franchise and served as exec veep at the Dick Wolf shingle. During her tenure at Imagine TV, she supervised development and production on “Felicity,” “Sports Night” and “Mulholland Drive.”

In addition, Rodrigue had an overall deal at ABC’s production arm, selling projects to the Alphabet, NBC and CBS.

“Rectify” and “Top of the Lake” are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Sundance’s original programming initiative. Cabler, once devoted primarily to indie films, has rolled out an impressive scripted development slate in the recent months, including projects from Robert Redford, Steve Buscemi and Stanley Tucci. AMC Networks already saw a successful transition with AMC after it added original series, starting with “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.”
